Andrea Baxter currently serves as the Associate Director for Music at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lansdale, PA. Her main responsibilities include direction of Musikers in the Making (children ages 3, 4, and 5 and their parents) the Cherub Choir (grades K-2), Joyful Choristers (grades 3-6), and LifeSong Singers (grades 7-12). Ms. Baxter also oversees Trinity Lutheran’s handbell program and directs the 5-octave choir, Trintinnabulators. As a pianist, she leads one of Trinity Lutheran’s four weekly services and accompanies choirs and soloists regularly.
Ms. Baxter grew up in Tamaqua, PA, where she started studying piano at a young age. Opportunities to accompany choirs and musicals in high school helped to push her toward a Bachelor of Music degree in music education from Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, PA, and then a Master of Music degree in choral conducting from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. Ms. Baxter has used her musical gifts in various settings, however she has found that her true passion is for music as an impetus for faith formation in the church.
In 2006, Ms. Baxter was selected as one of five exceptional children’s choir leaders to participate in the development of a Choristers Guild Choir Leadership Certification Program. The collaboration of the five recipients with Dr. C. Michael Hawn and Dr. Madeline Bridges led to the birth of the Choristers Guild Institute, A Certification Program for Directors of Young Singers. Ms. Baxter continues her involvement in the Institute by serving on the faculty each summer and mentoring a group of candidates for certification through the year.
Ms. Baxter has been married to her husband for nineteen years, and they reside in Lansdale, PA with their three sons. While Ms. Baxter enjoys cooking and reading, she finds that the majority of her free time is spent supporting her children in their many endeavors.
