James Wells is the Director of Youth and Children’s Music at Brentwood UMC near Nashville, Tennessee. Over his 24 years of ministry, he has directed choirs of every age including the adult Chancel Choir. Currently James leads the Asbury Children’s Choir grades 3-5 and the Sonshine Youth Choir grades 6-12 while overseeing all choir ensembles and participating in many areas of the Worship and Arts leadership. 

Since 2010, James has been a conductor with the Nashville Children’s Choir at Belmont University. 

NCC is a regional community choir for children and youth in residence at Belmont University. The NCC program includes three sequenced choirs for choristers in grades 3-8 and the Nashville Youth Choir for high school grades. James credits his mentor and friend, Dr. Madeline Bridges with much of his knowledge and passion for working with the young singer.

Although living in Franklin, Tennessee, James has close ties with the Florida Fellowship Chapter of the UMC and the Atlanta Choristers Guild Chapter. Even through the trying times of the pandemic, technology kept James connected with friends and mentors in church music and arts ministry.

James has been a frequent clinician with both youth and children at the UMC Fellowship Music and Arts Week in Lake Junaluska, NC as well as the Montreat Conference near Black Mountain, NC. He is fortunate to have the opportunity lead many local and regional festivals, music camps, and clinics throughout the southeast each year.
